My approach

I aim to provide a warm, friendly and solid experience for you so that you can talk as freely as possible with me. I offer an initial session for an hour so we can take time to explore your difficulties. If you feel that I am the right person for you we can then consider the best way forward; if not, I am happy to refer you on.

My approach is psychodynamic. This means that I will look at how you have become who you are and how your life events have shaped your current experiences and relationships. Through exploration of these you can be released from unhelpful patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviour, which often underlie current problems such as depression, anxiety or relationship stresses. In addition, we may need to address issues in present time to help you through the time of crisis that may have brought you to seek help. I aim to offer sound support, professional standards, and a warm commitment to you to see you through.

Experience

I worked as an Art Psychotherapist in the Health Service for five years before leaving in 1987 to practice privately in both Psychotherapy and Counselling. Since then I have worked with individuals and couples. I have both a depth and breadth of experience to draw upon, having worked with people with a wide variety of problems and difficulties. I am committed to high standards of practice and as such take further training courses and attend lectures to maintain the freshness of my approach. I adhere to all the guidelines set out by the professional organisations with whom I am registered. I have played a main role in setting up and supporting the work of Swindon Counselling Service providing training and Supervision, as well as being part of their committee structure. I worked for fifteen years as a Counsellor in Primary Care and continue to counsel for The Staff Support Service in Swindon.
